simple machines vocab

1. simple machines- Any of the basic mechanical devices for applying a force such as an inclined plane, wedge or lever.
2.compound machines- More than one simple machine used at once.
3.force-strength or energy as an attribute of physical action or movement.
4.friction-the resistance that one surface or object encounters when moving over another.
5.gravitation-movement or tendacy to move toward a center of attraction force as in the falling of bodies.
6.magnetism-A physical phenomenum produced from a motion of electric charge resulting in atrractive and repulsive forces.
7.work-activity involving mental or physical effort done in order of acheive in purpose or result.
8.newtons-Is the (SI) unit for force it is equal to the amount of the net force.
9.joules-The (SI) unit for work or energy equal to the work done by the force of one newton.
10.watts-Is a derived unit of power in the international system of units (SI).
11.acceleration-Increase in the rate or speed of something.
12.balanced forces-forces are balanced when the pulling or pushed force are equal.
13.unbalanced forces-in physics tension the magnitude of the pulling force.
14.inertia-A tendacy to do nothing or to unchange.
15.power-the tendacy to act or do something in an particular way.
16.speed-rapidly movement or action.
17.velocity-the speed of something in a given direction.
18.kinetic energy-energy that a body posses by virtue of being in motion.
19.potential energy-the energy posses by a body virtue of its position relative to others.
20.machines-An apparatus using or applying mechanical power to perform a particular task.
21.momentum-the quantity of motion of a moving body.
22.distance-An amount of space between a thing or person.
23.fulcrum-A point or support of which the lever pivots.
